In 2020, like a lot of people, we got the phone call nobody wants: we’d been laid off. COVID had shut the world down, and for a while it felt like everything — including our plans — was on pause. But sitting at home during quarantine, we kept coming back to the same thought: people are not going to want to stay inside forever. Weddings were being postponed, not cancelled. Birthday parties, graduations, church events, school fundraisers — all of it was just waiting for the green light. The second it was safe to gather again, Houston was going to throw the party of the decade, and we wanted to be part of that. That’s the moment Texas Frozen Tropics was born — not out of a business plan we’d had in a drawer for years, but out of a layoff, a hunch about pent-up demand, and a willingness to bet on ourselves.
The Lesson Behind the Leap: One Job Isn’t Enough
Losing a single paycheck teaches you something fast: relying on one source of income is risky. If that one thing goes away, everything goes away with it.
